odds and ends

Next weekend will feature a barrage of photos for those people back home wondering what the hell the Isle of Rum and it's varied inhabitants look like.

For all you with musical tastes leaning towards the heavier, prog rock genre... I am officially going to see TOOL in Glasgow on June 11th. Held my ticket last night. Jeff and Reza... I'll send you a picture.

I'm sticking around in the village tonight for another cooking lesson with Norman (veg curry, mushroom soup) and another episode of what is quite possibly the greatest thing to ever be broadcast on TV - BBC's Planet Earth. The latest episode is all about deserts.

Fraser's Last Hockey Tourney for the Season...Emma's first TV appearance

Went out to Fergus (head northwest from Milton until you smell liquid manure - you're there) on Sunday. They had the various Milton Tim Bits teams playing against several surrounding area Tykes (1-3 years older - guess who gets pummelled). "Watch out for the kids with the black sox - they're the ringers" said Paul. Don and Annabel made it out as well.

The rink was split in two. Two teams occupied one normal bench - from the stands all you could see was a row of black helmets marked CCM and a row of beady little eyes - nothing else. Even their sticks were too short to stand taller than the boards. We're not sure if the kids were standing or sitting...

Play was kind of lethargic - Paul said all the kids were using up their energy playing mini-stick ball hockey in the gym between the tournement games - working up a real sweat. However; the minute the horn blew for a line change they were sprinting like Ben Johnston for the bench. Something was lacking in organization though given that two teams occupied one bench - the junior Ben Johnston's funneled to the same door that the fresh players were coming out of. Collisons resulted in longer line changes than hoped for....

Fraser's goalie had to be repeatedly stood up by the ref by grabbing his shoulder pads, the shots were coming fast and furious...

Fraser, after a previous game, sat beside his dad and tried to diplomatically explain to his father why they lost that game when a young teammate came over, plopped himself down and pronounced "Man we suck."

Fraser and his team played well, he's managed a goal most games during the season according to Paul. He's one of the few on the team who is aware of the big picture and sprints back to his own zone to backup his teammates while others wander about waving at the fans !!!

Scores and statistical data withheld to protect the innocent.

Meanwhile Emma was dressed up as Dora the Explorer and on skates. The local figure skating club put on a big ice capades show to raise funds. Margaret helped paint up the ice and get skaters organized for a spotlighted, musical afternoon. Emma's on camera peeking out from behind the curtains before her grand entrance with other similarly aged kids. Like little penqins they did their stuff - then Emma's favourite part - being skated off the ice held up by the armpits by an older girl in the club.....film at eleven.

Good fun.

Garry
